For the first time in their career, KISS has collaborated on a release with another artist. This move, in their 41st year in the industry, coincides with their upcoming tour of Japan. Gene, Paul, Eric, and Tommy have recorded with Momoiro Clover Z to produce a 3-track single released in a couple different formats, including the version I have (KISS Version). This disc has six tracks, but the last three are the first three tracks with all vocal tracks removed.
“Yume no Ukiyo ni Saitemina” (夢の浮世に咲いてみな) opens the disc with Momoiro Clover Z providing lead vocals, while KISS supplies the instrumentation and background vocals. It is an interesting mix of sounds, as the Japanese five-some is light and poppy in nature, especially compared to KISS. Next up is a pop-filled cover of “Rock And Roll All Nite” that has a cool arrangement and different instrumentation. This interesting take on the classic is fresh and adds to the bands legacy, even without their contribution to the recording of this version. “Samurai Son” is KISS’ full-on contribution to the short disc, with background vocals from Momoiro Clover Z sung in Japanese. The music is the same as the opening title track, but the lyrics are different and in English, giving the band its newest material since 2012’s release Monster.
