Ahh the things you find at the bottom of the pile… unfairly overlooked on its release early last year, this EP should have been reviewed instantly but instead slipped through the cracks. Better late than never – but apologies to The Black Lullaby!

So, this little gem is a six-track burst of catchy alt-folk. A little bit pop, a little but rock, totally fun and almost impossible to sit still to.

Opener Let It Go and My Hands Are Free are bouncy and fresh, Izaac Blomby’s insistent drums and Lucas Zarzo’s guitars perfectly complementing Angela Saul’s vocals (she also plays guitar.)

It’s not all bright and cheerful, as their band name might indicate. Gets Me Thinking is darker and verges on broodiness, while Journey Up bristles with social conscience.

Closing track Hold Onto Your Hats is a rocking folky anthem that builds in intensity and power to climax this opening salvo from the Lismore, New South Wales band that we’re sure to hear more from soon.
