Grammy winning Halestorm packed the International in Knoxville on their second concert of a US tour. The evening started with opening performances from the Dead Deads and New Medicine. Shortly after 10pm, the lights dimmed and Lzzy Hale belted out I Miss the Misery. The lead singer’s powerful vocals and sultry stage presence were the highlight of the evening. She explained to the crowd that on the band’s current tour, there is no set playlist. Rather, each night will have its own special feel. Lzzy performed the dramatic Hate It When You See Me Cry solo, which she confessed was initially recorded after a bit too much wine.  The band even played a new song, Mayhem, which is rumored to be part of their upcoming third studio album for Atlantic Records. Aside from stellar vocals, the band also boasts a gifted drummer, Lzzy’s younger brother Arejay. His talent shined during a long drum solo – complete with a set of drastically oversized drumsticks. The artist is not only skilled, he also brings unbridled energy to the group. Bass player Josh Smith and guitarist Joe Hottinger round out the band. Lzzy attributes her and Arejay’s interest in music to their parents. She said they grew up in a household listening to what now is now called “classic rock” and developed a passion at an early age. They gave tribute to the genre with a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman.” After 16 songs, Halestorm finished the evening with a two song encore. For a late Wednesday night, the crowd was large and loud. The fans certainly appreciated the bands performance which nothing short of spectacular.
