A double set by the Spanish band En Casa del Herrero, led by vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player Eduardo Herrero, Tradicción encompasses songs sung in English, Galician (the co-official language of the Spanish region Galicia, where the band hail from) and Castillian, and delivered in an enjoyable and laid back style that encompasses a pinch of soft rock, country, folk, blues and rootsy authenticity.
Disc one, subtitled Adicción (Addiction), contains eleven original tracks that deal with the greatest addiction of them all: our personal relationships. There are some lovely tracks here: Let’s Get Married’s wistful hope; Road To Ruin’s yearning; the bouncy and very traditional sounding Vals En Capilla; the West Coast country twang of Duele.
Disc two bears the moniker Tradición, and features a dozen traditional songs – often about love, providing the link between the two discs – including the famous Wild Rover, Long Black Veil and The Water Is Wide. Herrero and Co evoke a round-the-campfire vibe throughout, for a wonderfully different take on these songs, all imbued with the rootsy groove of the band, plus a certain Spanish flavour that comes from their hearts.
