Wilco just keeps getting better. The iconic band played to a packed Tennessee Theater with over two-and-a-half hours of nonstop play. Front man Jeff Tweedy joked with the audience that they “aim to please” and they certainly did. The group is back on the road after nearly a yearlong hiatus. Far from today’s sugary one-hit wonders, the Grammy award-winning rock band boasts a 10-album collection and long-time fan base. Wilco is also soon to mark its 20th year anniversary with a greatest hits release. The energetic crowd was on its feet for the entirety of the show and ranged in ages from mature 90’s music lovers to those just born in the 90’s. Despite the age gap, the audience sang in unison to every song and created an intensely nostalgic scene during the band’s acoustic sets. Wilco’s notoriously unplanned set-list, decided spontaneously based on crowd energy, included songs from its first to most recent albums. Tweedy quipped that most songs “weren’t even hits”, but the crowd could not have disagreed more. After the set ended and a brief, two-minute intermission, Wilco returned to the stage for two roaring encores – an appropriately amazing concert ending from a band that has stood the test of time.
