Two decades in and The Dandy Warhols showed us that they’ve still got that swagger and edge with a twist of the neo-psychedelic that has made them a major festival draw card for years.
Local support band New Pollution started the night with sound that crossed between The Dandy Warhols and Tame Impala but they rocked it in style and were a great lead in to the Warhols set.
The headliners’ jangly guitar, alt rock sound mixed with distorted free-forms jams and the pop sound of Zia McCabe on keyboards and bass, with Brett De Boer on the drums uncommonly positioned front of stage just right of Courtney Taylor-Taylor, had hips swinging and heads bopping reminding us just how many catchy tunes they have before they were even halfway through their set.
However, all the crowds favourites came with a rush towards the end, punched out faultlessly and with spontaneous passion from a band that still has a lot to deliver.
