Shane’s Rock Challenge: FABIENNE DELSOL – 2004 – No Time For Sorrows
By Shane Pinnegar
7.5/10
Pure, perfect, uber-chic French garage pop from a chanteuse whose voice dredges up wave after wave of wonderful 60s and 70s memories – the Phil Spector-produced girl bands, Serge Gainsbourg, Lulu, Françoise Hardy and more.
French born, though she mostly sings in English, Delsol moved to England in the 90s and became lead singer for London band The Bristols. After two albums with them and a few laps of Europe with them and a couple of other acts, Delsol went solo and this was her debut record.
Led by the wonderfully go-go-ish I’m Gonna Haunt You, No Time For Sorrows sees minimalist, retro musical tracks allowing the singer’s ever-so-cute voice all the room it needs to slink and shimmy around. Chills And Fever, Pied Piper and Open Your Arms are lovely tunes with a very organic sixties vibe, while My Love Is Like A Spaceship is a psyched out trip, man.
Beautiful stuff.
