Released to celebrate the Punchbowl band’s 21st anniversary celebrations, Blackie and Ray enlisted their former vocalist/drummer – and primary school friend – Keish to sing on this super-low-budget hand-drawn-and-photocopied-cover two-tracker.
There Goes One Of The Creeps That Hassled My Girlfriend is the lead track and the one that really counts here – and it’s a great reminder of the band’s early days, Keish’s vocals oozing with melody over the band’s raucous assault, as they always did, and Ray’s cover self-portrait a funny bit of satire (the band – including a Slav and an Asian – playing at a Ku Klux Klan rally, with one hooded audience member saying “it’s not the same without Keish”, who is, of course, of Sri Lankan descent).
Second song Happy Birthday – no, not the traditional number, nor the one by Altered Images – is fitting too, with fun ‘thankyou for the ride’ lyrics.
l do recall on this tour keish joined the band, playing a full set of ‘classic’ material, before they continued with more recent stuff without him, whilst I cleverly pulled a hamstring while moshing in the moshpit, proving I was getting too old for that shit – which made that the last time I’ve moshed!
Some other stuff you might dig
