Dread Zeppelin - Un-Led-Ed cover

It’s the stupidest idea in rock history, but for one album it worked perfectly: take a Led Zeppelin tribute band. Have them play the songs in a Rasta reggae style. Top it all off with a chubby Elvis impersonator named Tortelvis. Madness.

I don’t recall following albums amounting to much (and there have been many) but Un-Led-Ed (apart from gifting Robert Plant & Jimmy Page with their own reunion album title) hit the nail on the head with some stridently original takes on this classic material, not to mention a couple of excellent mash-ups, the best of which is their thoroughly enjoyable meshing of Zep’s Heartbreaker and Elvis’s Heartbreak Hotel.

Of course, the joke gets strained towards the end (especially if you’re not a fan of industrial-Rasta-strength herbal treats) but purely from a musical standpoint Un-Led-Ed caught Dread Zeppelin dead on the money.
