Shane’s Music Challenge: MOTT THE HOOPLE – 1972 – All The Young Dudes
5/10
Mott never had a truly classic album – a handful of unbeatable songs, sure, but no killer album to reinforce them as legends, sadly. Their legend does live on, especially in England, though, largely by virtue of the memory of their live shows being glorified even still by the likes of Classic Rock Magazine – so much so that the band have reunited for gigs over the past few years.
Ian Hunter’s status as one of the best songwriters around isn’t in doubt, it’s just a shame that Mott The Hoople never managed to have all the ducks line up in a row for the prize.
All The Young Dudes, the album, is just okay – nothing herein can touch the title track, which was of course a gift from David Bowie, a great supporter of the band who also produced this record. The rest of the record… just okay.
