Shane’s Music Challenge: HEADER – 1995 – Sugafix EP
6.5/10
I don’t know much about this Perth band, except that I have this EP and their On High Street album from the following year. Last FM says “Header formed in 1993, featuring members of Perth bands The Rainyard and The Mars Bastards. They broke up in 1997 after releasing one full-length album and a number of EPs.” I’m pretty sure I never caught them live – I was overseas at the start and end of their tenure, and working as a chef the rest of the time, so lots of night shifts and weekend work.
Sugafix is a very cool EP. Led by singer Ian Freeman and bassist Liam Coffey, with Brad Bolton and Dave Chadwick on guitars, they conjured up a groovy indie rock sound that was part Oasis and part indie Aussie pub rock, as best showcased on the irresistible title track.
