The perfect St Patrick’s Day listening, Flogging Molly play Irish punk n’ roll with a bunch of traditional Celtic instruments and a devil-may-care attitude. Sorta like The Pogues with a harder edge, they rock impressively – as you’d expect when you realise singer Dave King used to front heavy rockers Fastway and Katmandu!

The album’s title pretty much sums it up – raucous trad celt punk with a hefty lean into the nearest bar, not dissimilar to The Dropkick Murphys or the aforementioned Pogues.

When King’s not singing about getting pissed up, he’s decrying the situation in Northern Ireland or talking about the woes of the world and the plight of we, the underdogs. It’s stirring stuff that’s hard not to get wrapped up in, and the likes of the title track, If I Ever Leave This World Alive, The Kilburn High Road and The Sun Never Shines (On Closed Doors) will all dance a jig in your head long after listening.
