Shane’s Music Challenge: PINK FLOYD – 1975 – Wish You Were Here
PINK FLOYD – 1975 – Wish You Were Here
10/10
Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a stunning piece of music, a twenty-six minute tale of madness and lost friendship in nine parts that stands alongside any piece of classical music in terms of quality, scope, meaning and significance, as far as I’m concerned. That it deals with the descent into acid-madness of band founder Syd Barrett merely adds another level to it.
Three other tracks round out this stunning album – Welcome To The Machine, Have A Cigar and Wish You Were Here, all seeing Roger Waters railing against the music industry and it’s inherent disposability and greed.
The performances are mind blowing, the songs incredible, their impact impossible to overstate. It’s an essential album, an essential piece of music without a wrong moment – you’ve probably already got it. If not, go shopping NOW.
