TOM ODELL’S “CAN’T PRETEND” TAKES CENTER STAGE IN NEW HBO PROMO SPOT FOR FORTHCOMING SEASON OF “THE NEWSROOM”
(New York – June 3, 2013) HBO and RCA Records are proud to announce that “Can’t Pretend,” a new song from Tom Odell, winner of the 2013 BRIT Critics’ Choice Award, was selected to be featured in promotional spots for their hit show “THE NEWSROOM.” “Can’t Pretend” is a featured track on Odell’s just released debut EP “Songs from Another Love.” The promo spots began airing over this past weekend on HBO, and will continue to air through the show’s season premiere on July 14th. Tom Odell, winner of the 2013 BRIT’s Critics’ Choice Award, announced earlier today the launch of launch his next North American run on July 30 at Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom. The 22-year-old U.K. artist played a special Spotify show at SXSW and performed to sold-out houses at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Troubadour earlier this year. He will open for the Rolling Stones at London’s Hyde Park on July 13 and will play numerous international festivals this summer. “Another Love (Short Film),” Odell’s video for his debut single from his just released debut EP Songs From Another Love (RCA Records / In The Name Of), was shot in Los Angeles with director Jamie Thraves (Radiohead, The Verve, Blur) and can be seen here.) London’s Sunday Times called “Another Love” “genuinely chilling” and NME predicted: “you’ll be hooked by the arresting energy of his voice.” He is the first male ever to win the prestigious BRITS Critics’ Choice award. Past recipients include Adele, Florence and the Machine and Emeli Sandé. Long Way Down, Odell’s full-length debut album, will be released in the U.S. later this year. THE NEWSROOM is an HBO series centered on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). In the new season, the staff of “News Night” chases a mysterious tip, which leads to a story that ultimately spins out of control. Aaron Sorkin created the series and executive produces along with Scott Rudin and Alan Poul. The second season begins July 14th.
