Relix premieres new song, “Dead Rabbits,” from The Hollows
New York, NY – April 10th, 2013 – Brooklyn-based roots-rockers, The Hollows have premiered a new song, “Dead Rabbits” off their upcoming live LP, Neverending Show on Relix.com. Stream the song here: http://bit.ly/XshXH8. The upcoming full-length album includes nine tracks off their previous full-length release, Belong To The Land, performed at Brooklyn’s premiere music venue, Brooklyn Bowl, in addition to two tracks off The Hollows EP, two covers (“The Weight” by The Band and “Loving Cup” by Rolling Stones) and three previously unreleased tracks. The band recently returned from this year’s South By Southwest Festival, where their wildly energetic live shows garnered attention from tastemakers including The Wild Honey Pie, which featured The Hollows as one of their Thursday night highlights, http://bit.ly/ZX3RuH. The album release also marks the end of their PledgeMusic fundraiser, which you can check out here, http://bit.ly/WXaaD0. The Hollows will be celebrating with an album release show on April 23rd at Brooklyn Bowl.
On the new track, “Dead Rabbits,” Rob Morrison of The Hollows says, “It’s about the shift that can happen when relationships end, and lovers see each other as this unfortunate eyesore. A once-loved one transforms from a human being into an object, a dead rabbit, to leave behind and shudder at the thought of. I’ve always found that quite sad.” He continues, “The Hollows worked an ‘invisible build’ into the piece — by the end, our audiences seem stunned with where we wind up, ‘Didn’t that start out as a weepy ballad?’ Nah, it’s a secret slow jam.”
The Hollows are a group of multi-instrumentalists; a freewheeling hootenany of a band. A veritable junkyard of mandolins, banjos, guitars, accordions, horns, harmonicas, and various other musical doodads are in constant rotation. With no frontman (or six frontmen), everyone writes and arranges material, creating a diverse and uniquely blended sound. The live show is a high-octane, unpredictable barn-burner. On the upcoming release and the band’s recently launched fundraiser, band member David Paarlberg says, “The Hollows have a phrase we often find ourselves repeating: ‘Together Together.’ It’s something that’s sort of stuck over the years and essentially what it means to us is to strive for a sense of ensemble; a genuine communion that’s inclusive not only of the band but our audience as well– the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It’s an invitation to dialogue and share something with everyone in the room, so it was important to us that we capture that energy and intimacy with a live LP. As we prepare to record our second full-length studio release, we want to make sure we’re able to spread that message wider with national press, radio distribution, etc– that’s what this fundraiser is about; accomplishing that while continuing the connection with our fanbase– it’s essential to what we do, not just as artists, but as people.”
The formation of The Hollows was a very gradual process. Erik Saxvik (Illinois), David Paarlberg (New Jersey), Jeffrey Kurtze (Indiana), and Daniel Kwiatkowski (Michigan) all studied theatre together in college during the mid-2000s. The four friends would spend many a night playing music in living rooms, bonding over their love of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits and all things strange and spooky; but it wasn’t until the foursome relocated to New York City and met Rob Morrison (North Carolina) and Justin Aaronson (the only native New Yorker) that The Hollows sextet was finally complete.
After receiving high praise such as The Deli Magazine‘s Artist of The Month, TimeOut NY‘s Critic’s Pick, and rave reviews from The Huffington Post, CBS Radio, My Old Kentucky Blog, Relix, The Wild Honey Pie and more, The Hollows show no sign of slowing down in 2013.
