Catchy, modern rock, punk. If these words belong in your music vocabulary, you just might be VERY interested in the latest release from Her Bright Skies.
Disc opener “Working Class Punx” introduces the listener quickly to the direction of this disc. I must say, from the start, they are headed in the right direction. The next track, “Up & Away” is a little more rock and less punk, but good stuff. If the lead singer screamed and the guitars were a little louder, this would be good metalcore, but as you can actually understand the lyrics and the guitars are pleasant to listen to, this is really good modern rock. “Love Kills” comes along and injects some energy to the disc, with its speed and aggressive guitar work.
Title tracks, “Rivals” is reminiscent of Eve 6 without being a carbon copy. The disc is progressing nicely and “You Are The Ones” keeps that progression moving forward. This is one of the better rock tracks on the disc. The music is catchy, the lyrics are meaning full, and the laying is great. “Diamonds” is another good rocker that doesn’t add much to the disc, but doesn’t detract either. Disc closer “Sweet Sweet Revenge” is another good track that lends itself to the modern sound that even has a few growls or screams in it, mild, but they are there. The only downside for me on this disc is the inclusion of two slow tempo tracks. These guys do rock well, and should stick to it.
