Ken Savage and Austin Schell have an impressive enough phone book that they can call in Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, King Kobra, Quiet Riot), Lorraine Lewis (Femme Fatale), Jeff Paris (writer for Vixen, Mr Big and many more) and Terry Ilous (XYZ, Great White) to cover vocal duties on this epic album dedicated to bringing back old school rock.
Kicking off with the Shortino-sung title track, the guys name-drop the classics – Zeppelin, Kiss, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Judas Priest, Ozzy, AC/DC… and that’s just in the first verse! It’s a fun homage in a similar vein to Heaven’s In The Beginning, and Shortino has some fuckin’ lungs on him!
Your Boyfriend Is Lame, sung by XYZ man Terry Ilous, is another great song with a quirky phrasing that sounds so familiar but which isn’t. At least, I don’t think so… It’ll stick in your head for days, regardless!
Lorraine Lewis embraces her MILF-dom on Still Turnin’ Heads, with a sultry and seductive vocal about… well, the title says it all, and she is one magnificently talented, and magnificent looking woman!
Jeff Paris’s best offering is the hard rocking boogie Another Hotel Bar, sing perfectly in a Van Hagar style. Lewis closes the album out with the slow burning Hundred Years War, before the band riff out Famous Last Chords.
At only 9 songs the album seems a little light on – another one or two would have been the icing on the cake, but as an exercise in quality over quantity “Resurgence Of Rock” is a winner, and will doubtless appeal to fans of all the aforementioned artists.
