Leederville Connect and the City of Vincent presents a community event for all ages – The Light Up Leederville Carnival

Saturday 8 December 2012, 1pm – 8pm    A FREE EVENT

The streets of Leederville will light up and come alive on Saturday 8 December at the inaugural Light Up Leederville Carnival.  This free event will take over the Leederville precinct from 1pm – 8pm with free entertainment and attractions for all ages, culminating in the ‘lighting up’ of Leederville’s first-ever Christmas lights in the evening.

Food, music, fashion, art and children’s entertainment will take over the streets, alleyways and hidden nooks of Leederville.  The streets will be closed off to traffic during the festival to cater for the 20,000 expected visitors along Oxford St (between Vincent and Leederville Parade) and the main corner area of Newcastle St (up to Duende, including Carr Place).

Festival director Jimmy Murphy said “This Light Up Leederville Carnival is a fantastic opportunity for the community in and around Leederville and wider metropolitan Perth to come and soak up and celebrate one of Perth’s great cultural assets – Leederville!”

Leederville Carnival is the initiative of Leederville Connect (an organisation formed earlier this year to give local residents, owners and traders a single voice and direction for the better of the area), with the City of Vincent as the principal event sponsor.

Leederville Connect Chairperson Don Eftos said that the first Leederville Carnival is shaping up to be an exciting event.

“The Light Up Leederville Carnival won’t be your average street festival.  The day’s activities have been programmed with a Carnival feel, and the streets themed in a way that will harness the unique character that Leederville has.  There will literally be surprises around every corner, and something for the whole family,” he said.
