PETER MURPHY – TOURING IN JANUARY Performing solo material & Bauhaus Classics

Presented by Metropolis Touring, Tombowler and Rivetting Promotions

In the opening scenes of Bowie’s vampire film “The Hunger” the camera is drawn incessantly to one of the most strikingly intriguing frontmen of the 80’s. The song performed, the amazing “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” (originally released in ‘79), spawned the Gothic Rock subculture, influencing such acts as The Sisters Of Mercy and The Cure, and providing inspiration and a sense of belonging to millions of alienated youth worldwide. Bram Stoker be damned – Dracula was never as sexy as Peter Murphy with his sinewy looks and dark brooding vocals.

The second release by Murphy’s band Bauhaus, launched one of the most important lables of the UK independent scene, 4AD, and the band released 4 menacingly abiding albums featuring landmark art-rock tracks such as “The Passion Of Lovers”, “Kick In The Eye”, “She’s In Parties” and the over the top covers of “Telegram Sam” and “Ziggy Stardust”.

“I know his name, and I know the shape of his head, because it’s a shape I’ve been very jealous of. I think anyone with a head shaped like that, all kind of sharp and hollow and almost sinister, must have something magical about him.” Paul Morley

Bauhaus splintered in 1983 leaving Murphy free to work on a one-off album project, Dali’s Car, with Mick Karn of Japan (work on a 2nd Dali’s Car album in 2010 was cut short when Karn sadly succumbed to cancer).

Following Dali’s Car, Murphy embarked upon a solo career releasing eight albums between 1986 and 2004 and achieving significant success with singles “Indigo Eyes”, “Cuts You Up”, “Strange Kind Of Love” and “The Sweetest Drop”.

A mid 2000’s Bauhaus reunion saw the band tour with Nine Inch Nails and release an album of new material before once again fracturing.

The end of 2011 saw the release of Peter’s best received album to date. “Ninth” delivered 11 cuts of guitar fuelled drama which Murphy describes as having “… testosterone pouring out of it. At the same time, it’s as beautiful as any female siren.”

Peter Murphy’s current live show sees him reclaiming his legacy, performing both solo material as well as Bauhaus classics such as “She’s In Parties”, “Stigmata Martyr”, “Dark Entries” and “In The Flat Field”.

Unbelievably, this will be the first time Peter Murphy has ever performed in Australia, either solo or as part of Bauhaus, and given his followers’ absolute devotion and fanaticism, we anticipate tickets will go quickly for what could be the only opportunity to see Peter Murphy’s unique live performance and hear THAT voice – one which never fails to deliver and amaze.
