Emeli Sande Announces U.S. Tour
October 18, 2012 — New York, NY — Breakthrough UK sensation Emeli Sandé will launch a U.S. theater tour in January 2013. Included are dates that were necessarily rescheduled from the fall due to a hectic international itinerary along with new shows announced for New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, and other cities. Tickets for the previously announced dates are on sale now (previously purchased tickets will be honored), while the newly announced dates go on sale this weekend. Please see below for all upcoming tour dates.
Sandé is touring in support of her brilliant debut album Our Version of Events, which was released on June 5th by Capitol Records and has received rave reviews. People called it “One of the year’s best debuts,” The Los Angeles Times said it was “filled with finely crafted, expertly produced love songs” and the Associated Press deemed it “a stunning collection of songs.” Her success has been remarkable in her native UK, where she’s been the music story of the year. Released in February in the UK, the album hasn’t left the Top 10 since (nearly eight months!) and is the best-selling album of the year there. The Scottish singer and songwriter was the only artist to perform at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics (view HERE) and she has begun to pile up awards and nominations. In the UK, she won the prestigious Critics Choice Award at the BRITs as well as a Silver Clef Award, she is nominated for a Q Award for Best Solo Artist and she garnered five MOBO Award nominations. In the US, she was nominated for a BET Award earlier this year and is up for two Soul Train Awards in November (Best New Artist and Best International Performance for her single “Next To Me”).
Along with the critical and commercial success, Sandé has also been incredibly well-embraced by her musical peers. Fittingly for someone with a medical degree in neuroscience, she has become an in-demand song doctor as the likes of Rihannaand Beyoncé have come calling to collaborate. Artists as varied as Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle have recorded her songs, she’s contributed hooks on UK hip hop hits from the likes of Tinie Tempah and Professor Green and she collaborated on three songs for the upcoming Alicia Keys album (hear one HERE), which will be released on November 27th. Her relationship with Keys started when Sandé opened for her in the UK and she’s also opened multiple tour legs for Coldplay (see her cover of the band’s “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” HERE). Keys has called her a “magnificent new artist,” Simon Cowell deemed her his favorite songwriter and Adele was moved enough by a TV performance to tweet simply “How incredible is she?”
