WAM Song Of The Year 2012: Nominees Announced

The wait is over for songwriters throughout Western Australia as 80 nominees in 16 categories are announced for the 2012 WAM Song of the Year. Song of the Year celebrates the best of Western Australia's songwriting talent. Now in its 23

rd year, this prestigious songwriting competition offers more than $30,000 worth of prizes.

 


Winners will be announced at the Awards Night at the Fly By Night Musicians' Club on Thursday 11 October at 7.30pm. Hosted by 96FM's Darren de Mello and with the presence of Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe - APRA Ambassador), the evening will feature live performances by
2011 Song of the Year Grand Prize winner Timothy Nelson & The Infidels, as well as Yabu Band, Kucka and Boom! Bap! Pow!

The Grand Prize winner walks away with $2,000 cash; three days recording at Albert Studios in Sydney engineered by Wayne Connolly; a mentoring session from Alberts Creative Services team; the  opportunity of an album distribution deal to China courtesy of 88tc88; a mastering session with James Hewgill Music; 500 CDs pressed by DiskBank; an opportunity for a publishing deal with Perfect
Pitch Publishing; a Berkleemusic online music course; and a RØDE Microphonespackage. They also have an opportunity to perform at the AGWA Nights finale in November and at the 2013 WAMi Festival, and to have their song included on the 2013 Kiss My WAMi compilation.

The Mental Health Commission of WA is the competition presentation partner and Mentally Healthy category sponsor. This category allows songwriters to share songs dealing with positive messages relating to mental health. The message for WAM Song of the Year 2012 is "Music talks about mental health, so can you." Support also comes from WAM's major partners APRA | AMCOS and Headspace.
