Liv Kristine is widely known as the voice behind Leaves Eyes. For most artists, including Liv, solo projects are simply an outlet for those thoughts, ideas, and songs that wouldn’t fit the mold of a band project.
Libertine is just that. There are several songs that are intense emotionally without the symphonic metal sound that Leaves Eyes are known for. Truth be told, I would much rather listen to this disc over and over compared to Leaves Eyes most recent releases.
Live brings a very beautiful and powerful skill to the disc – her vocals. I love an operatic voice overtop of melodic rock music, even if it is a well played ballad like “Silence.” After that you have strong rock tracks like “Solve Me” or “Paris Paris.” A lot of these songs could be pop hits as well, but that shouldn’t keep a fan of symphonic rock from getting into them.
After the title track, the last two songs are a little too light to end this disc. I think the final tracks “Meet Me In The Red Sky” and “The Man With The Child In His Eyes” should have been mixed into the disc allowing for a more upbeat and rock ending. That being said, the tracks here are solid, just not in a solid order.
