GOAT – Sign Of The Dead EP
Self released, 2012
By Shane Pinnegar
5/10
Across six tracks on their debut EP Perth, doomy Western Australian 2-piece GOAT bombard the listener with a collection of mighty, meaty Sabbath-styled riffs that manage to be more than mere second rate copies.
Where they fall down, however, is in the vocal department, with the almost-spoken lyrics sounding thin and ineffectual next to the might of the music.
The exception to this rule is Bury The King – a transcendental trip through the early Sabbath songbook, where the singer locks into the groove and rides the wave, rather than standing at odds to it as in most of the other tunes.
Goat definitely have potential, they may just need some more time for the vision to crystallise.
