“Betamax” reveals a more melodic side to Big Black Delta’s sound and the 11/5 release will include remixes from the likes of breakthrough Dutch dubstep producer Martyn, Lord John Fonda, Shameboy, and more. Big Black Delta himself (Jonathan Bates) has also been in demand for remixes from the likes of Rob Zombie, M83, and Dhani Harrison’s The newno2 to name a few.
Big Black Delta spent the summer playing headlining dates around the country and supporting old friends M83 and Jane’s Addiction. In October, they will return to the UK for a full tour.
The brainchild of Jonathan Bates (Mellowdrone), Big Black Delta’s explosive live show features dueling drummers and an orchestrated light show using visual elements of the bespoke album artwork, which was created by Jonathan himself and creative director Caspar Newbolt. No stranger to pushing boundaries, LA based Bates was, until recently, the driving force behind alt rock favorites Mellowdrone, has been heavily involved in M83’s live and studio sound and has also worked with the likes of White Sea, among others.
Not many new bands can lay claim to praise from the likes of Jay-Z and Dave Navarro in the same week, but then Big Black Delta isn’t just any band.
“Big Black Delta sound so massive, it’s going to be weird if they don’t actually become massive.” – The Guardian
“…if you can black the windows, close your eyes, and imagine that sort of cosmic, sonic otherworldly hissing between the stars, the result would be Big Black Delta.” – Blackbook Mag
