ALONG CAME A SPIDER Signs with Standby Records
Standby Records, the home of Rock N’ Roll 2.0, announces today the signing of Cleveland modern metal band ALONG CAME A SPIDER to their roster. A video announcement of the signing can be viewed HERE.
Formed at the end of 2009 by guitarist Justin Sobota, ALONG CAME A SPIDER has spent the last few years developing a lineup that featured the talent at each position in the band needed to reach further than the small confines of the Ohio metal community.
Like so many bands signed to Standby Records, CEO Neil Sheehan was drawn to the band not only by their brilliant sound which has been compared to acts like A Day To Remember, In Fear And Faith and Bless The Fall, but also to the band’s proven drive to succeed in a business that has gobbled up and spit out so many other bands of lesser work ethic. “ALONG CAME A SPIDER get it,” states Standby Records CEO Neil Sheehan. “This is a band that understands that the songs are only one piece of the puzzle, but that the work they will have to do will make the difference between their success and failure.”
Clearly the band has already proven that kind of work ethic. They have self funded everything in their career to this point, including two tours and the recording of their soon to be released album If We Were Normal Men. Regarding the title of the new album, it has significance to the band’s members, who named the album to indicate the band’s feeling about their desire and skills.
“It signifies that if we were in fact normal men, the dream of becoming full time musicians would not come true,” states Sobota. “Only strong willed people can strive for what they want and believe in. Normal men would have quit when things got hard, especially with how many members we lost and ones we had to remove. The title is just a question we ask ourselves everyday with the band. “What if we were normal men?” and many answers derive from there.”
If We Were Normal Men was recorded, engineered and mixed by producer Don DeBiase, who is best known for his work with bands like Modern Day Escape. Recorded with DeBiase at Studio D Productions in Cleveland, the big sound captured by ALONG CAME A SPIDER was another reason Sheehan wanted to add the band to the Standby Records roster.
“You don’t hear a band with more appeal sonically than ALONG CAME A SPIDER,” states the always candid Sheehan. “I get demos from band after band, and while some of them are good, very few grab me the way ALONG CAME A SPIDER did when I heard their new album. As soon as I heard their material, I knew a Rock N’ Roll 2.0 band was ready to be launched to the world.”
If We Were Normal Men is slated for release on October 30th on Standby Records.
