A sumptuous hard-cover book which does exactly what it says on the front: trawl through every aspect of the Star Wars universe in encyclopedic detail, analysing the physical composition and geography of planets, urban details and architecture; comparing life forms (grouped into beasts and sentients and under different habitats), and much more.

One doesn’t have to be a geek to have found a life-affecting resonance in the Star Wars movies – this hefty coffee table tome can be used as a handy reference guide companion to the films, including a useful timeline that encompasses all eight movies plus the Clone Wars animated series, and a helpful analysis of the oft-complicated Galactic political rivalries.

For the truly nerdy amongst us, the book even goes into great detail about different uniforms and official dress codes from different planets for different occasions, armour and weaponry – including super-weapons like the Death Star, cultural issues, art & language from around the galaxy, and the robots we’ve all loved since first seeing C3PO and R2D2 in 1977, droids of all shapes and sizes and protocols.

Regardless of your intensity of Star Wars geekiness, Star Wars – The Visual Encyclopedia is thoughtfully and comprehensively compiled, beautifully put together, and will enhance enjoyment of the greatest movies series of all time.
