I’m always down to catch a doom or psychedelic rock show, and when I saw that Uncle Acid was going to be making a stop through Nashville, TN at Brooklyn Bowl, I jumped at the opportunity to try and catch them live. I’d never seen them perform, but I’d been a fan for several years. This night was filled with dimly lit and trippy projectors playing over top of insanely good music and energy. The crowd in attendance were absolutely there for the performance. Throughout the course of the performance, numerous times a pit broke out  to the enjoyment of the patrons surrounding and even a few times there was just an entire crowd almost in unison headbanging to the riffs coming from the stage in front of them. From the first notes of “Mt. Abraxas” to the final notes of the finale “No Return,” Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats maintained an extremely energetic and masterful set. Their set was a pretty standard 14-song set with selections from their pretty in-depth back catalog. The songs of the evening that I couldn’t wait to hear live was “Mt. Abraxas” and “Melody Lane.” Hearing “Melody Lane” live was even better than I ever imagined.

Nights like this are always a pleasure for me because the crowds aren’t typically sold out but very enthused and very appreciative of what is happening on the stage and the full evening of events. The visuals coming from the stage are always such a pleasure and more of an extension of the sounds and superb art form. I chatted with several people while in line to get in and ran into them later on in the evening and every single one of them was beside themselves with how great the show was. Several drove several hours to make this stop on the tour. I always love hearing that from people in attendance. Seeing that level of love towards a band to drive to a show is always such a remarkable high note. It helps with the overall enjoyment of the evening just knowing to what extent some people went to make this one specific show. This band is by far one of those for anyone who loves a solid night out to rock and is a fan of doom and psychedelic rock like The Sword and All Them Witches. I for one cannot wait until they make another stop through Nashville, TN in the future.

Setlist: Mt. Abraxas – Waiting for Blood – Death’s Door – Ritual Knife – House by the Grave – Bedouin – Don’t Let It Control You – Pusher Man – Melody Lane – Withered Hand of Evil – Only Death Is Your Handcuff – Shapes of Midnight – I’ll Cut You Down – No Return
