In a relatively small but brutal show of force, Castle made a stop through Cobra in Nashville, TN, and held the crowd to the edge throughout the course of the evening, filled with classic doomy 70’s goodness. It had been since before the pandemic that Castle had made a stop through town, and I was unfortunate to have to miss that gig, so when I saw they made an announcement for a show on this current tour leg to pass through town, I jumped at the chance to get to see them again. Massive sound comes out of this 3-piece outfit from San Francisco, CA, and always seems to enthrall anyone watching. I was sad to see a smaller crowd at their show, but for the ones that were there, I was ecstatic to see them thoroughly enjoy the performance coming from the stage.
Playing a pretty normal 12-song set to finish off the evening of metal at Cobra on that Saturday evening, Castle went into various tracks from their releases as well as several new songs from their current album they were touring on. My favorite points of the evening were getting to hear “Truckgrinder” and “Flash of the Pentagram” live, as well as newer tracks like “Deja Voodoo” and “Black Spell,” which had been released since the last time I was fortunate to see them live. Several of the attendees didn’t know what to expect from Castle prior to their set but watching their reactions throughout the course of the performance, it went from curious to absolutely agog with excitement. This show was definitely an excellent way to cap off an already busy week in Nashville, TN. You can’t ever go wrong when it comes to some classic doomy goodness. When I left for the evening, my ears were ringing in that good way, even with having hearing protection on. That is always the sign of a great night of metal. For anyone who loves a great metal show, I highly recommend trying to catch Castle if and when they swing through your area. They will not disappoint, and I’m keeping fingers crossed they make a stop through Nashville again in the near future and not almost 10 years between stops.
