SHONEN KNIFE re-cuttin’ Australia/NZ 2026
Touring this OCT on the back of the upcoming release on AUG 21 of their Re-Cut seminal 1992 album Let’s Knife in Australia/NZ via Valve/MGM
Shonen Knife – ever glowing. Ever sharp. As they continue to ride their all out rocking planet with their ever-vescent neon popping punk fun – from Japan 45 years going strong. With the upcoming release on AUG 21 of their Re-Cut seminal 1992 album Let’s Knife in Australia/NZ via Valve/MGM – Naoko, Atsuko and Risa cut into the sugar lines of their current world touring to chop it all up in their favourite wonderland of Oz. Recently announced on Brisbane’s ZED51 and Melbourne CROXTON BLOCK PARTY with KING GIZZARD – now comes the full national dessert!
“In a world drowning in irony Lets Knife Re Cut arrives like a neon lifesaver thrown from a punk rock speedboat. Shonen Knife reminds us all that rock can still be heartfelt silly and absolutely essential. Grab this one immediately crank it loud and prepare to smile until your face hurts because these songs were built to outlast every trend going.” – (Jammerzine)
The album’s original success was famously due to Nirvana. In 1992 Kurt Cobain revealed his obsession with the Japanese trio, calling them ‘his favourite band’ and asking them to tour with him. Shonen Knife had never heard of Nirvana but eagerly took advantage of the opportunity. They quickly put together Let’s Knife out of their best songs, recording them in English and headed to the USA as national touring guests of Nirvana.
Joining a mixed bag of the shows on this tour will be 90s Perth fuzzed out toy keyboard rockers TURNSTYLE whose Spray Water on the Stereo cooled things up… and 90s indie Melbourne rockers MOLER whom recently emerged with new album 69… plus current UK touring synth egg punkers MEDIA PUZZLE – see dates for who plays where.

SHONEN KNIFE (from Japan)
Shonen Knife, one of the leading Japanese pop-punk bands from Osaka, was formed in Osaka with Naoko (Vocals/Guitar) at its core. In the 1990s, they garnered immense support from artists such as Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and Redd Kross, and subsequently expanded their touring and record releases worldwide. Since their formation in 1981, as influenced by US punk band Ramones, UK punk pop The Buzzcocks, 1960s girl groups and more, they have consistently toured and recorded, establishing a unique position in the rock scene around their love of food and cute animals.. Even now, when “international expansion” by Japanese musicians is no longer uncommon, no other Japanese artist is as beloved by rock fans around the world as Shonen Knife.
In 2026, their breakthrough album “Let’s Knife Re-Cut,” a fully-realized re-recording of their album “Let’s Knife,” will be released.
The new album of Shonen Knife “Let’s Knife Re-Cut” will be released. This album is a newly recorded version of “Let’s Knife,” the band’s worldwide debut album, featuring the current members. With Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls as executive producer, recorded at Good Caramel Audio in Buffalo, USA. This album, featuring all live staples and essentially a best-of compilation, is reborn anew by the current Shonen Knife!
SHONEN KNIFE present RIDING ON THE ROCKET
Perth cult favourites TURNSTYLE formed in 1995, spending more than three decades quietly building a devoted following through fuzzy guitars, spazzed out toy keyboards and catchy melodies, propelling a string of acclaimed releases including the single Spray Water On The Stereo and the album Turnstyle Country from 1999. The band released a further 5 albums since reforming with the original lineup in 2013. Long regarded as one of Australia’s great underground indie-rock bands, they’ve shared stages with Teenage Fanclub, Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, Superchunk, Grandaddy and, fittingly, Shonen Knife. Expect a set spanning the band’s catalogue—from much-loved classics to recent inventions — one of Australia’s true indie cult bands.
Aussie indie rock icons MOLER are firing on all cylinders following the release of their blistering new album 69—their second full-length release since their 1997 ARIA-nominated debut Golden Duck. Bursting with fuzzy guitars, razor-sharp hooks and Riot Grrrl attitude, 69 captures the unmistakable Moler sound: raw, melodic, loud and gloriously unpredictable. On stage, those songs take on a life of their own, delivered with the intensity, chemistry and infectious energy that have become the hallmark of a Moler show. It’s a fierce statement from a band reborn, proving Moler remains every bit as vital, uncompromising and electrifying as ever.
MEDIA PUZZLE are a 5-piece punk band from Lismore, Northern NSW, delivering a blistering mix of scuzzy, down-the-barrel synth-punk, thrashing through 90-second songs without a second wasted. In under two years, the band has released three albums and two EPs. Their vinyl debut was picked up as a Rough Trade exclusive, and their latest release earned a 7.6 review in Pitchfork, praised for its “uncanny creativity that egg-punk weirdos love to tout.” Their music has since been featured across Rage, Triple R, 4ZZZ, NTS, and beyond. Currently on tour in the UK.
