Thursday night on a co-headlining tour, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Men at Work played to an almost packed house at The Pinnacle in Nashville, TN. In a very chill performance, everyone had assigned seating and was excited for the overall event from start to finish. Toad the Wet Sprocket hit the stage and immediately jumped into a fully packed set of nothing but their hits. Numerous times, they stopped to talk to the crowd and give minor stories between songs. For their set, I was beyond excited to finally see them live and to hear “Come Down”, “All I Want”, and “Walk On the Ocean” in a concert setting. I had been a fan of theirs since the early 90s, so seeing that they were coming to town with another powerhouse act like Men at Work made me giddy and ready for a packed night of good tunes. When Toad finished their set, they made sure to all get together and take a bow and thank the crowd numerous times before leaving for the night.

After a stage change, the headliner of the evening, Men at Work, came onto stage. The lighting and stage setup was brilliant. Colin Hay was centrally positioned with the rest of the touring members scattered around the stage. Colin would stop from time to time and have very funny anecdotes and stories about the meaning behind his songs to laughter from the crowd. Initially, when I came in for the evening, I was curious as to why it was a seated show, but when I saw the amazing performance the entire evening coming from the stage, I knew this was for the best. I was extremely happy to finally hear “Overkill” and “Down Under” live. Men at Work has been one of those bands I have listened to since the 80s, so finally getting to a live performance was great. I don’t know why I put off seeing either of these absolutely fantastic bands perform live all these years, but it won’t be the last time from here on out. I will go out of my way to catch a show anytime either of them are performing near me. At the end of the night, upon leaving The Pinnacle, I stayed around outside to catch conversations from attendees as they left, and all I can say is that everyone was beyond ecstatic from the performance they had just attended.
