A Dirty Dozen with CHAS HUFF from GET OUT ALIVE – August 2026

According to a recent press release: “Get Out Alive is the brain trust of Chas Huff, a solo alternative metal artist originally from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, who later relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. His musical journey began in high school, producing on a borrowed computer before stepping into the local scene as a performer. Over the years, he played in multiple bands, including a punk band which shared stages with acts like Puddle of Mudd, and later a group that opened for artists such as Fame on Fire, collaborated with notable features, and secured a distribution deal. He further expanded his reach through an international project earning another distribution deal and working alongside recognized collaborators.” We get Chas to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

“If I Leave” is the first GOA idea ever written. I was rinsing some early 2000s hard rock bands. The ones I grew up listening to in my mom’s car like Three Days Grace, Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, etc. Made me really miss the simplicity of a simpler hard hitting groove. I think a lot of people will recognize that era of inspiration. Diehard fans MIGHT be able to find a DIY music video somewhere on the internet I filmed in my bedroom a year back. I will confirm it exists.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I couldn’t tell you the exact moment I knew. My parents have VHS tapes of me younger than I could remember just absolutely banging on drums and strumming the hell out of out-of-tune guitars in my lil’ spider man whitey tighties. Maybe my big realization was around 2011 when I started diving into the Warped tour scene, went to my first concert, and started a band with my best friend at the time.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Tons. I have taken inspiration from so many artists across the spectrum of genres. Some notable names would be blackbear, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Jonny Craig, A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Three Days Grace, Chevelle, Falling in Reverse.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Adam Gontier from Three Days Grace.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

I casually play video games here and there, I’ve been running up Diablo IV lately. Reading, spending time with my fiance, family, and hanging with my pups.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

I would describe Get Out Alive as a blend of alternative and metal. This dude on social media once said “I didn’t know JD Vance could sing like that.” I still have absolutely no idea if that’s a good thing or not, but it made me LMAO.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

GOA is a solo project! I just put together a live band though, we’ll have to revisit this question once we all get some time on the road together.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

I’m not sure I get starstruck often, but working with Jonny Craig and Colin V. from RCD was pretty wild. Great guys.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

I love where it takes me. I’ve met so many people, I’ve been flown across the country, I’ve been asked to tour. You never know what’s coming next. I don’t have another dream job, this is the only one.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I’ve always imagined what I would say to younger viewers who are trying to make it in this industry. I wanted to find something less generic to say than “don’t give up!” or “post 10 tiktoks everyday” haha. The answer has always changed, but right now I’d tell them to lean into what makes them unique. If you are copying someone you will never be as good as them, but if you make it your own, nobody will ever be as good as you. Be a pioneer, not a copycat.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

Not one! I’ve always stood my ground and tried to do the right thing. It’s led me to who I am and where I am today. Wouldn’t change a thing.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I would love to have been around for the debut Three Days Grace album. There’s some behind the scenes on Youtube. It’s just such a monumental record for them and for my youth.
