Thankfully, this Perth-based operatic, symphonic, goth metal band is back in business.
Initially the solo brainchild of songwriter, Gina Bafile, Darkyra have re-emerged as a tight ensemble, featuring Bafile on vocals, Drew Casella on drums, Maaz Malik on bass and Pedro LeLorenze on guitar, with their album Life Force, June 2025.
Hopefully, this means that with this new single, ‘We Are Blind’ bursting forth on 10 July 2026, there is a new album in the works.
The evocative offering has been co-written by Gina Bafile with Krissy Sanfead of Parabelum, who replaces guitarist LeLorenze on this track. The track channels the titans of symphonic metal such as Nightwish and Within Temptation, with its 5 minutes and 30 seconds of incredible melodic waves of sound.
Not a group to be bound by the conventions of genre, ‘We Are Blind’ changes its pace and from very quickly whilst lifting you up, up, up and then, and then, within a heartbeat, leaves you gasping for breath and wrung out emotionally.
It is possible this release could be somewhat of a challenge to reproduce live, however, drawing from past performances this band is extremely professional and passionate about being able to bring their fans along for the same ride they endured whilst penning and recording the track.
Be aware that if you do venture forth, the song’s inspiration described by the band, is:
“Preocccupied by material things, glued to our devices, oblivious to some of the rotten things happening around us. If only we really opened our eyes and looked to see what is happening. Poverty, crime, pollution the list goes on. What will we leave for the children of the future? A photograph…. A souvenir of our once beautiful world.”
Leave your digital device at the door and allow yourself to embed the memory making process as authentic as possible.
