A Dirty Dozen with SIERRA LEVESQUE – May 2026
According to a recent press release: “Today, 21-year-old rock singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sierra Levesque releases her hard-hitting new single “UNDERMINED,” available now on all streaming platforms. Fueled by aggressive lyrics, powerful guitars, and dynamic vocals, the track delivers a fierce anthem of defiance, exposing deception, and reclaiming power. Alongside the release, Sierra also premiered a high-energy music video showcasing the intensity behind the song. Born in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada and currently based in Los Angeles, independent artist Sierra Levesque is redefining rock for a new generation. She fuses pop, metal, and hard rock into emotionally charged anthems that are both bold and relateable. Backed by a rapidly growing global fanbase and national media recognition, the Gen Z multi-instrumentalist continues to carve out her place in the future of rock music.” We get Sierra to discuss new music, influences, and more…
1. Tell us a little about your latest release. What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?
My newest song, “UNDERMINED,” is an upbeat, aggressive rock anthem about reclaiming your power. I’m really proud of the guitar solo I wrote for it, so that’s definitely something people should pay attention to. One cool production detail is a whispering voice layered into the second verse…let’s see if people can catch it!
2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?
I grew up listening to a lot of Ozzy, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, and other classic rock bands with my dad, so I always felt like music was in my blood. I was in musical theatre productions starting at age 3 and began taking music lessons at 7. Around the age of 12 was when I knew I wanted to pursue music full-time, and that’s when I started performing live anywhere I could…and I’ve been doing that ever since.
3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?
Some of my biggest inspirations are Avril Lavigne, Joan Jett, Scorpions, and Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart. I take different things from each of them and incorporate them into my own music, live show, and style. I love blending a classic rock sound with a modern edge.
4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?
Tobias Forge from my favorite band, Ghost. I love their sound, riffs, and songwriting, so collaborating with him on a song would be incredible.
5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour? What do you like to do to unwind?
I really enjoy going to see new horror movies, going for runs by the ocean, and traveling with family and friends.
6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?
I usually describe my music as a heavier version of Avril Lavigne with some old-school rock mixed in. I’ve also had people compare me to Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, which is a huge honor. One thing I disagreed with recently was a reviewer saying my music didn’t sound “rock” enough, because most people tell me I’m helping lead the “new generation” of rock music.
7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?
I actually play all of the instruments on my songs — drums, bass, piano, guitar — as well as sing and write everything, so I guess I usually do all of it haha! I like to say I’m a one-woman band. I love cooking and I’m definitely the first to grab an acoustic guitar for a singalong. I’ll have to try doing both at the same time someday!
8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?
I recently attended an event where Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins was speaking, and it was really cool getting the chance to ask him a question. I’d love to work with him someday – I really love his songwriting.
9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?
I love being able to use music to make people happy and help them feel understood. Whenever someone tells me they relate to one of my songs, it makes all of the hard work worth it. If I couldn’t be a musician, I’d probably still do something music-related, like becoming a music therapist and helping children with disabilities use music as a tool in their everyday lives.
10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?
I’d love to be asked what accomplishment I’m most proud of, or something people would be surprised to learn about me. I always enjoy reading those kinds of answers from my favorite artists. One question I don’t love answering as much is why I don’t have a full band behind me yet. I’m performing live with fully self-recorded backing tracks as much as I can right now and for those who think I need a band, don’t worry…I have plans!
11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?
I probably would’ve been easier on myself and trusted that everything would work out. It’s not worth stressing over small details about shows or situations that are ultimately out of your control.
12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?
I would’ve loved to sit in on the recording sessions for Blizzard of Ozz so I could watch Randy Rhoads write and record all of those legendary guitar parts. He’s probably my biggest guitar hero, and I love Ozzy, so seeing that album come together would’ve been incredible.
