Dexter and the Moonrocks rolled into Charlotte Friday night with a bang! Last year, they dropped their new EP, Happy to Be Here, and since then, they’ve been hitting the road hard across the US and Canada. The EP has some real bangers on the alternative charts, like “Ritalin,” a raw ballad that dives into substance abuse and mental health. The band—James Tuffs (vocals), Ryan Fox (drums), and cousins Ryan (guitars) and Ty Anderson (bass)—come from small Texas towns, just outside Abilene. They call their music Western grunge, and you’ll find it mostly on alternative rock stations. They kicked things off early, around 9 pm, to a great crowd. The set was almost two hours long, packed with new songs, crowd favorites, and even a couple of covers. The fans were having a blast, with crowd surfing and mosh pits all around. They wrapped up the night with the perfect local tune, “Sad in Carolina” and “Ritalin,” which really sealed the deal on a fantastic show.
