A Dirty Dozen with PSALM 101 – January 2026

| 17 January 2026 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “A new wave of inspiration is rising in the world of Christian and faith-driven music with the emergence of Psalm 101, a creative family band dedicated to blending worship, artistry, and authentic storytelling. Rooted in the belief that music can both move hearts and spark change, Psalm 101 exists to create songs that not only inspire but also challenge listeners to live out their faith boldly. Psalm 101 is a creative family band and production brand rooted in the mission of Psalm 101:1 — to sing of God’s love and justice. Through original songs, collaborations, and live experiences, Psalm 101 aims to merge faith, art, and culture to inspire authenticity, worship, and transformation around the world.” We get the band to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Yes, our 15yr old son, who is our drummer, is singing BGVs with Bill for the 1st time! His first time ever in the studio.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Angela was born into a ministry family, and started singing at 3yrs old. Bill got into music at his grandparents church. They bought his first guitar around 13 years old. Angela & Bill met at that same church, and started doing music together right then! It was definitely a calling. Then, of course Austin, our son, was kicking  to the music in the womb!

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Angela was raised on Southern Gospel Family groups like The Hinsons. Then we both were influenced by 70’s southern rock, 80’s & 90’s country & pop!

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Angela would choose Dolly and Austin would choose Guthrie Trapp. These are all artists who don’t really need a big production to still be artists of music.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

We love to ride bikes, and enjoy our hometown. We love watching movies together as well!

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

Most describe our music as a secular sound with strong biblical lyrics. Some say it’s a little bit of  Lynyrd Skynyrd Randy Travis, Janice Joplin, & Reba, rolled into one church band! We cringe when people try to put a label on our music! We are not one style, we are a mix of all of our influences.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

Angela cooks! Bill is always on management detail, and Austin is always ready for a jam session!

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

Austin met one of his drum influences at an expo in Nashville recently…Chris McHugh. He took the time to share some advice with Austin.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

Being able to inspire people. As a Christian musician, we also get to be a small part of changing people’s lives, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Well being a musician is our dream job! Austin is currently training to be a pilot!

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

Tired of answering “who is your favorite singer or song” There is no definite answer to those questions. We love exceptional songs & voices.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

We regret not recording more music! We only have 3 full albums in 20 years!

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

There again, there are too many to narrow it down. However, it would be cool to go back to our very first recording, tell ourselves not to be so nervous, and enjoy the journey!
