To a highly energized crowd filled with fans, young and old, Static X hit the stage in perfect form. With a short interlude of music from Edward Scissorhands and Vincent Price’s monologue from the beginning of Michael Jackson’s song “Thriller” the lights started to come on to their giant chrome pumpkin head moving around on stage to snow falling on the crowd. Once the theatrics were done, they got down to business by busting straight into “Bled for Days,” “Wisconsin Death Trip,” and “Fix.” Throughout their performance, Xero maintained that level of energy that is still missed to this day by the passing of Wayne Static. But there were a few new family elements and stage acts like a massive Frankenstein’s monsters partying on stage. They ended their set with a very powerful version of “Push It.” This wasn’t the first time that I was fortunate to catch a Static X show, nor will it be the last. They are so much fun to see live. Always a good time. Amazing lighting and great stage presence.
After a short change-out out it was time for the main performance of the evening. Mudvayne performing L.D. 50 for their 25th Anniversary tour. The band slowly got onto the stage while the song “Monolith” was playing on the systems. Once that was done, they gave the crowd what they were waiting for with blistering performances of “Dig,” “Internal Primates Forever,” and “-1” to get their set rolling. Taking a short pause between portions of the set. Mudvayne ended the main part of the show with “Nothing to Gein” before jumping off stage to allow Chad to do a quick wardrobe change and then back on for a 6 song encore ending with a brand new song called “Sticks and Stones” followed by “Determined,” “Not Falling,” and the finale that had the crowd roaring with “Happy?” This was the first time I was able to catch Mudvayne perform, even having been a fan since the release of L.D. 50 25 years ago. It was a show that should not be missed. Overall, this entire tour is needed for anyone who loves a great metal live show.
