A Dirty Dozen with HENRIK BERGMANN from INDECENT BEHAVIOR – September 2025

| 24 September 2025 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “German pop punkers Indecent Behavior drop the video new single “Grown Up” — a song about never really growing up. About never fitting in. About staying who you’ve always been and about sharing and experiencing that feeling together. After performing at Rock am Ring, Rock im Park and touring with Neck Deep, Zebrahead, and the Donors, Indecent Behavior will issue their fourth studio album SICK on September 26 via Long Branch Records.” We get singer Henrik to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest single, “Grown Up”.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

“Grown Up” is a song about getting older without ever really growing up. We believe it’s super important to keep your inner child alive so you don’t get lost in the daily grind.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized that you wanted to be a musician?

I actually started making music in preschool. I started by playing the piano for one year and changed to the guitar later. So to be honest there was never a time I can remember, where I didn’t wanna play music, haha. But I remember two moments in my life, where I found out that I wanna be a musician traveling the world and playing music on stage. The first one was when I saw a Bon Jovi concert on TV. I was around 5-6 years old and it was like… “Holy sh*t I wanna play concerts like this, too”. The second one was when my older brother showed me some bands from the hardcore and punk scene of the early 90s. I don’t know exactly which bands it was, but it had a huge impact on my musical development.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Oh yeah! I remember Life On a Plate by Millencolin. One of the first records I knew. Afterwards there would have been bands like Blink 182, Sum 41, Lagwagon, NoFX, Simple Plan…. Too many to name them all, haha. It was a great time and those bands influenced not only my taste in music but also the way I wanna live my life a lot!

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

I would love to do a song with Simple Plan! That would be awesome. But there are so many great bands out there like Hot Milk, State Champs, Neck Deep, Stand Atlantic… We would love to do songs with all of them!

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour? What do you like to do to unwind?

I live in a very quiet area and I love that I can decide whether I wanna have action or relax. I love to play video games, have a walk with my dog and spend time with my wife. I’m also into skateboarding, but unfortunately I don’t have the time to do it as often as I would love to…

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

I often say that we play “Heavy Pop Punk”. Pop punk as it was in the 2000’s spiced up with more speed or heavy parts from genres like metalcore or hardcore.  I don’t think that I ever heard a bad comparison… I guess when you listen to our music it becomes quite clear where to put us, haha.

7. When you and the band are hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

The last one is probably me, haha. We are actually traveling quite long distances that we don’t see as much from the cities where our concerts are as we want to… Usually I go to the fans after the show to have some drinks and chat with them. I can’t really drink before the show because it’s affecting me too much on stage. I guess the other ones do so, haha. It’s a lot of fun!

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

Definitely when we played Rock Am Ring last year. It’s one of Germany’s biggest festivals and nearly every musician dreams of playing there one day. It was just awesome to stand on the stage where you watched a lot of your favorite bands in the crowd… But we will also play the biggest headline show we ever played at the end of this year in one of our favorite venues. Could be the same feeling!

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

I think that the best part of it is that I can do what I love! Everyone should do so… When you have a dream, go and chase it!  I think I would still work in the music industry though… promoting shows or stuff like that.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

Did you interview your favorite artist yet and how was it? Okay, literally “How did you come up with your band name?”…. Get asked this so often, haha.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

No actually not. You know, it’s a journey and every step you take leads to something else… I love how everything is evolving and I learned a lot from my mistakes. So actually there’s nothing that I would want to change… Of course I would do a lot different right now if I would start a new band. But I would not know all these things if I didn’t make the mistakes I made.

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

I think American Idiot by Green Day would be nice. Songs like “American Idiot,” “Holiday,” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” were some of the first songs I learned on guitar! That would be great!
