A Dirty Dozen with GREG T. WALKER from TWO WOLF – August 2025

| 1 September 2025 | Reply

According to a recent press release: “Two Wolf, a U.S. band whose sound is a raucous, visceral mix of Southern rock and hard blues-rock. The band’s two leading lights are founding member bassist / songwriter Greg T. Walker, who was also a co-founder of the classic Southern Rock / hard rock band Blackfoot and an early member of Lynyrd Skynyrd and original member Lance Lopez, a blues rock singer/guitarist, and songwriter.  The band also includes Kris Bell (vocals/guitar) and drummer Rusty Valentine. Born from the raw spirit of American hard rock, Two Wolf is a high-voltage powerhouse straight out of Florida, setting stages ablaze with their electrifying fusion of Southern grit and thunderous rock energy. With a twin-guitar attack that cuts like lightning and vocals that roar with untamed intensity, Lopez and Bell lead the charge on guitars, while Walker’s legendary bass lines and Valentine’s seismic drumming drive the band’s relentless groove. Two Wolf carries the torch of its blues/rock -rock ‘n’ roll legacy while forging a fresh, unrelenting sound for a new generation. Blending deep Southern roots and blues with a modern hard rock edge, they deliver a sonic onslaught that is both fierce, ferocious, and unforgettable. With the release of their highly anticipated self-titled debut album on Cleopatra Records featuring the band’s trademark high-powered performances and excellent songwriting, Two Wolf is gearing up for a massive year ahead to promote the new album and perform for their fans.    As they lock in an exciting lineup of shows across the country, Two Wolf is proving that real, unfiltered rock ‘n’ roll is not only alive, but louder and prouder than ever.” We get Greg T. Walker to discuss new music, influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets you put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Two Wolf is self-titled, self-produced, in your face, no pretense straight ahead hard rock.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

I was given a Ukelele when I was five years old and, at the age of ten, two of my childhood friends and I formed our first rock band and never looked back.

3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?

Nothing definitive. We began playing the local venues and Navy bases and played hits of the day at that time. At eighteen we added two additional players and began six nights a week, five sets a night for six months. Within the first month we began to write songs and drew from many groups of the era until we realized we didn’t quite sound like anyone else, we made our own unique sound. Six months later a member left so remained 4 piece until the end.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?

Never gave any thought to that. We had a constant flow of ideas within the band so simply remained original.

5. What is your favorite activity when out of the studio and/or not on tour?  What do you like to do to unwind?

I live on the very fringe of wilderness, this property has been in my family since 1833, and I am 6th generation. Every day is an adventure. I co-exist with deer, bear, turkey, panther, bobcat, gators, and other wildlife. I enjoy bow hunting. I am Muscogee Creek, and I was taught well.

6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?

Hope I don’t jinx myself, but we have received nothing but praise so far.

7. When your band is hanging out together, who cooks, who gets the drinks in, and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

We live in different cities and states. When in the studio our drummer, Rusty Valentine, can whip up a meal here and there. Drinks are to each his own! It’s rare, but once in a while is an acoustic is handy any one of us may pick it up and strum a few chords.

8. When was the last time you were starstruck and who was it?

I began meeting famous people at such a young age it became normal. 99% of them were very kind.

9. What is the best part of being a musician? If you could no longer be a musician for whatever reason, what would be your dream job?

I cannot imagine life without music; I never thought about Plan B. Music has been my life since I was five years old.

10. What is one question you have always wanted an interviewer to ask – and what is the answer? Conversely, what question are you tired of answering?

I can honestly say I’ve been asked about every question in the book. I never tire of answering a lot of the same questions, it’s therapy in a sense and I thrive on it.

11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over,” even if it didn’t change your current situation?

I honestly have no regrets, except one. We never had good management through the years; we pretty much managed ourselves. Whatever success we had was earned from hard work and dedication and the same applies today with our new album out. This interview proves we must be doing something right because we are already talking about the next Two Wolf record!!

12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

That would be the Strikes record. It was our most successful, but I always felt production was weaker than all the others. The material and playing was great, but it was recorded with a mobile unit parked outside the building we were in, and it always sounded a little thin to me. However, it sold the most so what do I know?
