Jumping on stage to an extremely energetic and sold-out crowd at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, TN, The Struts got straight to business with their hit “Put Your Hands Up” and “Primadonna Like Me” before jumping into the 10th anniversary set for the album Everybody Wants The Struts. This night was filled with audience participation to the level I have rarely seen in a live performance. I was highly impressed with how attuned with that stage the attendees were. Ranging from random hand waves when asked to a sing-along, they were absolutely part of the overall performance. It was really quite impressive to see that amount of energy being sent back to the stage equally met coming from the stage throughout the entire evening. The lead singer exuded some serious Jagger swagger and controlled that stage and crowd like a pro. During “Only Just A Call Away,” they yanked one of the members of the audience up on stage and had a very energized duet. Stopping a few times throughout the evening, the lead singer, Luke Spiller, enriched the crowd with humorous stories and experiences surrounding the history of the band and how crazy they have been together this long, and how fortunate they have been.
After playing 14 numbers, the band left the stage for a brief time and then came back and jumped right into a 4-song encore, starting with a cover of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” before hitting “Body Talks,” Pretty Vicious,” and ending the evening on “One Night Only.” I have to reiterate that I have never seen this level of audience participation in a live show to the extent that it is the entire performance. Normally, there are a few songs before everyone starts getting involved. This really impressed me with the evening. The amount of positivity and excitement shown by all was so impressive with The Struts. I will absolutely go out of my way to catch them whenever they come through.
