Being late to the game to only discover how creatively talented and energetic Lights is was very refreshing for me. I had only been familiar with a few tracks and some collaborations over the years. So I was at this show really on a whim…and boy did that whim pay off. I was so thoroughly impressed with the showmanship, stage presence, and overall performance that I am an instant fan. The moment she got on stage, the sold-out show screamed. There was off and on throughout the performance, where she didn’t even have to sing, and she just let the crowd sing. Hearing that several around me had driven from several states away to see this performance let me know how special this night was and the level of work I was getting into.
Lights did not disappoint. She performed an eighteen-song set with a short pause and then came back for two additional songs for an encore. The mood and the lighting for the evening were some of the best that I had seen at a live performance. Not to mention her high energy and the entire band’s enthusiasm for what they are doing. Several times during the show, she stopped and had humorous moments and stories to share with everyone. It’s always great to see a band that truly loves what they are doing perform. That energy gets delivered to the crowd and makes the overall event even more enjoyable. For a musician/band that I wasn’t fully in the know about. Just damn. This was a wonderful show filled with brilliant work and skill. There were a few standout numbers during the night for me. “CLINGY”, “Grip”, and “Batshit”. But the entire setlist and show was perfect. I normally don’t buy any merchandise from a gig unless I am fully knowledgeable or have been looking forward to the show for a while… picked up a shirt by the end of the performance. This is a show that I would highly recommend catching if you can. I will absolutely go to another Lights show if I can.
Setlist: Day Two – Damage – Okay Okay – Running With the Boys – White Paper Palm Trees – Siberia – The Last Thing on Your Mind / February Air / The Listening – Ghost Girl on First – Beside Myself – Face Up – Up We Go – Salt and Vinegar – Dead End – Surface Tension – Clingy – Speeding – Piranha – Grip – Love Me – Alive Again
