Jumping on stage to an absolutely electrified sold-out crowd at Marathon Music Works, Fontaines D.C. went straight into a high energy set to the excitement of the house. Within two songs the crowd was already singing back to the stage at full volume and the lead singer took turns holding the mic out to the crowd and then back to him for “Jackie Down The Line” and “Televised Mind.” That was when I knew I was in for an amazing evening of sonic bliss. To have a crowd that is receptive and in the moment is always one of those things that makes live music so wonderful. They performed several songs that I was looking forward to hearing live. “A Hero’s Death” and “Boys In The Better Land” were the two highlighted moments in my mind for the event. The pace of the evening was very fast and felt like it was over before it started, but they performed an impressive set of 16 songs with a decent spread of selections from the newest album to all of their past releases with an encore of 4 tunes to close the evening out with “Starburster” which had everyone screaming.
The pure impact of the presentation on the stage and lighting was exceptionally on point with the mood and vibe of the evening. Playing to the crowd and thoroughly enjoying what they do on stage this show was stellar. There was something for everybody being represented and performed this evening. I could have handled a complete second set from these brilliant musicians, but like all great nights it came to a close. I will not be missing the next time they swing through town. If anyone has the opportunity to check this band out…DO IT. They have an amazing stage presence and vibe. The reactions and attitudes of everyone leaving the show afterwards were excited and happy. This is a band that is highly recommended to catch live even if you aren’t that familiar with their music.
