Taking turns playing on their co-headlining tour Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats hit the stage first at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, TN on this fine evening. First song for their set was a powerful performance of their song “Suffer Me which let the packed amphitheater know that Nathaniel and company were there to mean business. Playing songs off of a majority of their catalog of albums. They made sure that everyone in attendance was in for a treat. I was very partial to hearing “Look It Here” and “S.O.B.” live. They played 21 numbers for their opening set and totally were beyond brilliant.

My Morning Jacket then hit the stage after a short intermission and jumped straight into their song “Mahgeetah.” You could tell by seeing their expressions on the stage that they absolutely love playing and performing and that energy overwhelmed the audience and happy faces were abundant. They performed 14 songs on their closing set for the evening which also covered a large portion of their back catalog ensuring there was something for every level of fan. Around two thirds through their set they dropped a live debut of one of their new songs “Aren’t We One?” By the end of the evening when they were on the tail end of their set they invited Nathaniel Rateliff and his horn section back onstage with Susan Tedeschi of Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Margo Price for a cover of The Rolling Stones song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” I had never seen either of these two bands perform live before and can honestly say that I will go out of my way to catch another live performance by either of them again. Such a wonderful team up for a tour. This concert is for anyone wanting to go out and simply enjoy exceptionally good music and vibes.
