Jerry Cantrell hit the stage to an extremely high energy and excited audience in the almost packed Nashville Municipal Auditorium. Jumping straight into his song “Psychotic Break” he and his touring band, Greg Puciato and Gill Sharone both previously of the band Dillinger Escape Plan. Massive sounds and intense moments filled his set with selections for the set ranging from classic Alice in Chains numbers like “Them Bones,” “Sea of Sorrow,” and ultimately ending their set with “Would?” and “Rooster.” The age range of the audience in the crowd was surprisingly amazing. Having a tour lineup that would be having a majority of a Gen X’er audience there was a very surprising amount of younger audience there that were completely in the moment and singing along to every song performed by all of the bands.
Once Bush jumped on the stage the crowd was ready. Bush didn’t waste a second and dove straight into “Everything Zen” and “Machinehead” letting everyone know this greatest hits tour will definitely be a greatest hits performance. They played the majority of hits that I knew or remembered from over the years with a few newer songs that I actually hadn’t heard that often so I was excited for that. They kept the energy going until “Flowers” at that point Gavin jumped off the stage and commenced to go through the crowd fistbumping, high fiving, and hugging random people along the way; ultimately he made his way up to the upper levels of the Auditorium and then back down to the floor and through the middle before heading back to the stage. The ended their set with “More than Machines” only momentarily before coming back onto the stage for a 4 song encore that started off with a surprise addition to this show with one Amy Lee of the band Evanescence performing the song “1000 Years” that she had recorded with Bush in 2022. They then went into a cover of The Beatles song “Come Together” before ending the evening with “Glycerine” and “Comedown.” This was the second time I’ve been to the Municipal Auditorium for a show and sound and lighting are always on point. Extremely courteous staff and pleasant crowd. If anyone has even the slightest itch to get a great performance while they are on tour this is one of those definite ones to consider. Full bill of bands and sets performed made this one of my top shows that I have been fortunate to see in several years.
