THE SAINTS ’73-‘78 3rd Brisbane show added + three other new shows announced
Due to overwhelming demand The Saints ’73-’78 have added a third Brisbane show plus three more shows in new locations: Hobart, Thirroul and Byron Bay.
It seems somewhat appropriate that in his 50th consecutive year as a live performer and 50 years since the genesis of the iconic “(I’m) Stranded” came to him whilst waiting for the train at Auchenflower train station in the outer suburbs of Brisbane, that Ed Kuepper would be re-presenting the tunes of his youth in all new reenergised form and to an audience who largely never managed to witness it first time around.
The acclaimed singer, songwriter, guitarist has never been one to look back instead, focusing very much on the here and now via subsequent outfits Laughing Clowns, The Aints!, Asteroid Ekosystem and a long and celebrated solo career. But the original The Saints tenure was so brief with the band’s live experience lasting less than three years and all three of their acclaimed albums featuring Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay, being recorded over just 20 months that it all just felt like unfinished business.
“There was an intensity to The Saints that requires a real focus to return to. It is important to keep an eye on the goal. I still feel totally in tune with the music and it doesn’t feel at all alien even though some songs are 50 years old. I still relate to what I was aiming for originally, and I like it.” – Ed Kuepper
Alongside Kuepper are original Saints drummer and founding member Ivor Hay plus honorary Saints Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys) and Mick Harvey (The Birthday Party / Bad Seeds) as they dig into the catalogue of The Saints’ hugely influential albums (I’m) Stranded (1977), Eternally Yours (1978) and Prehistoric Sounds (1978).
“The Saints first three albums rank among the best records ever made. They have been a part of my life since stumbling upon them in the early 80s. Their influence looms large in Mudhoney world. I am stoked, stunned, and humbled that I get to join in on this Rock ‘n’ Roll Reality Camp with Ed, Ivor, Peter and Mick!”– Mark Arm
“It’s great to be given the opportunity to run through this set of songs again and especially the chance to work with a group of people of the calibre of Mark, Mick, Pete and especially Ivor, who is one of the most distinctive drummers I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I’m feeling chuffed that they’re all on board for this.” – Ed Kuepper
“I’m really looking forward to having the chance to be playing these great songs again and capturing the original excitement and energy of the first three albums.” – Ivor Hay
Ed Kuepper, Ivor Hay, Peter Oxley, Mark Arm and Mick Harvey are The Saints ’73-’78. See them live this November.
