Dates: February 2, 2024

Review and Photographs by: Todd “Toddstar” Jolicoeur (

With about three months passing since the release of her latest release BB/ANG3L, Tinashe is finally taking the show on the road.  Armed with an already full catalog and now more killer tracks to swirl in for her fans, the tours second show landed at The Ritz Ybor in Tampa, FL and the packed venue was as excited for the show as any I have seen recently.  Self-proclaimed Jersey Club Queen DJ UNIIQU3 warmed up the crowd for nearly 30 minutes with her own spin on club music, including songs from her recent EP.  After a quick set change, a only a platform and screen remained and a few minutes before Tinashe was to hit the stage, a timer was presented on stage and counted down from 5 minutes.  The clock hit 0:00 and the crowds energy level exploded as Tinashe hit the stage and dove head first musically into “Treason” from the October 2023 release.  Her voice was amazing as if she had saved her best for us tonight after the tour opener a couple nights before.  The energy was amazing as it passed from the stage across the audience swirling around the venue with the music and then jumped back onto the stage.  It was obvious we were as pumped to be in the moment as she was.  Next up was “X” and the aura in the room took on a slightly sexually driven feel along with the track.  Between her delivery, the dancing from her and the four guys she brought out on stage, and the lyrics.  Looking around from moment to moment, it was obvious there weren’t many casual fans in attendance tonight.  Shifting from the previous shows setlist, Tinashe jumped into “None of My Business” and followed that up with “Talk To Me Nice.”  Other great tracks were on tonight’s agenda and set including “Life’s Too Short,” “HMU For A Good Time,” and “Bouncin.”  As the set moved after the first few songs, Tinashe asked for a medic or doctor and left the stage to allow someone one the crowd to be treated and then resumed her show once the all clear was given.  Shedding her puffy coat (albeit after we had to put our camera away), the set and the room only heated up from there.  Another highlight of the evening was her inclusion of “2 On,” which my son introduced me to due to his liking Schoolboy Q and the track.  The overtones in the music were contagious and permeated every moment of the evening.  A few other tracks were added to the evenings set that weren’t included in ATL, including “Stormy Weather” and “Unconditional.”  The personal highlight was the inclusion of all tracks from the BB/ANG3L release as I have listened to this release on repeat for weeks waiting for the show, especially set closer “Needs” which was paired up with “All Hands On Deck.  The balance of the set list was culled from her previous releases and allowed her vocals to shine from song to song as she shifted between R&B, rap, and even some pop leanings sonically.  The audience embraced the evening and emoted love toward Tinashe and she returned the sentiment with each song and moment of the evening until she left he stage for the final time.  I am already looking forward to the next opportunity to enjoy Tinashe perform live, but until then I have BB/ANG3L to keep me busy.
