As I am waiting in line to get into the Park theatre in the -7C (19F) weather the anticipation for this show kept growing, I had not seen any of the band on this bill perform live. The night was filled with moshing and high-energy performances that made me very nostalgic. Kicking off the night with an explosion of sound and fervor, Avoid set the bar sky-high with their infectious hooks and thunderous breakdowns. Their magnetic stage presence instantly captivated the audience, igniting a frenzy of mosh pits and exuberant leaps. It was evident from the outset: Avoid had gained a legion of new fans, myself included. Counterparts, kept the energy sky-high with their heavy riffs and killer vocals. They had the whole crowd headbanging like crazy. As a Canadian, seeing them tear it up filled me with pride. Then, The Devil Wears Prada hit the stage to a packed house, and the place went nuts. They leaned heavily on their latest album Color Decay, with tracks like “Exhibition,” “Watchtower,” “Broken,” “Salt,” and more, but also threw in some classics like “Dez Moines” and “Danger: Wildman” from back in ’09. All-in-all this veteran band did not disappoint their fans and left them wanting for more.

Fit For A King closed out the show with an intense and explosive performance. The set was filled with heavy riffs and guttural vocals that had the crowd moshing none-stop. Backlit by a row of vertical LED lights the performance turned out to be quite the light spectacle. I do want to point out that the bass player was such joy to watch, with his kick-jumps and guitar flips, and at some point ending up next to me at the bar ordering a shot mid set, it was something to be remembered. FFAK set included a broad variety of songs from their catalog, from their newest single “Keeping Secrets” to their 2016 album Deathgrip with song like “The End’s Beginning,” “Pissed Off,” and “Deathgrip.” All in all Metalcore Dropouts was packed with high-energy and explosive riffs that never stopped delivering for their fans, Fit For a King was the perfect cherry on top of the cake to end the night and from what I saw every single person at the sold out show would have agreed with me, definitely one for the books.
