51st AVENUE’s Guide to Long Distance Friendships

As you grow up, being an adult takes over most of your time. It isn’t as easy to maintain the friendships you once had. This concept is the inspiration for our latest single ‘Chapters’. On reflection here are our tips to maintaining friendships/long distance friendships.

Be understanding and flexible
Everyone has different priorities and commitments and this changes all the time based on what is happening in people’s lives.

Ignore response times
We are usually so fixated on getting a response in a timely manner. However, it is important to not think about how long it took for someone to message you back, the important thing is that you messaged and they will message back when they have the time.

Be inclusive
It is important to keep them included. Usually when someone says no to going out/hanging out consistently we usually give up on asking. However, don’t take this as a negative, as it is important for the friendship to keep them included, even though they say no, they will still be happy that you continue to ask.

Time apart is okay
Strong friendships and bonds will last even if you don’t speak for a period of time. The time does not diminish the friendship. It is okay to pick up from where you left off, despite how long it has been.

Schedule and plan hanging out
Once upon a time you could text your friend and be like ‘hey you wanna hang out?’ and you would be hanging out that day. This is less likely as you grow older as we juggle many responsibilities. For this reason in order to stay in touch it is crucial to properly plan in advance your hanging out.

51st Avenue are back with a brand new track to kick off the new year and a new chapter, with a single fittingly titled, ‘Chapters’. The song is the first release from the band since the track ‘Find Me’ further positioned the Sydney trio as ones to watch. A formidable entry into the band’s growing catalogue of work, ‘Chapters’ is an exciting hint at what is soon to come for the group, who are anticipating a busy first half of the year.

‘Chapters’ continues to build on the foundations of songs like ‘Find Me’, ‘Mind Your Own’ and ‘Remnant’, bolstering 51st Avenue’s creation of hard-hitting and exciting music that fuses electronic and pop music together with heavy rock influences. For ‘Chapters’, the band worked with Mark Williamson at Keywork Audio in Sydney, leaning into the dynamic punk-pop energy that has been teased through previous work.
