Hitting the stage in Winnipeg at the Burton Cummings Theatre on November 30th, 2023 Meshuggah had their work cut out for them with In Flames and Whitechapel energizing the whole place beforehand with their explosive sets. Meshuggah however did not disappoint, the evening was filled with high energy and soul piercing riffs, opening their set with an eerie/ominous but bone crushing sound that followed with their opening track “Broken Cog,” the first track on their latest studio release Immutable, setting the tone of what was yet to come. Meshuggah made its way through their catalog, giving every fan a little taste from tracks two and three being from their 2002 album Nothing and going all the way back to their first record None with the song “Humiliative” before going into their encore, nothing hit as hard with the fans as their encore which had two tracks, a fan favorite “Bleed” from their ObZen, record dating back to 2008 and finished off their incredible light show of a set – which at times made you feel as if you were on a mushroom trip or about to have an epileptic seizure – with “Demiurge” off of their 2012 release Koloss. This tour leaves little to be desired, with the amazing support acts from In Flames and Whitechapel, it is a very balanced and enjoyable experience and has a little something for every metal head out there to enjoy. Winnipeg almost marked the halfway point of this tour, they are dipping into the US for almost the remainder of the tour finishing it off in Canada, with their final dates being in Toronto at HISTORY on Dec. 15, and finishing it off in Laval, Quebec at Place Bell on Dec. 16th.
Setlist: Broken Cog – Rational Gaze – Perpetual Black Second – Electric Red – Born in Dissonance – Ligature Marks – The Abysmal Eye – Mind’s Mirror – In Death (is Life) – In Death (is Death) – Humiliative – Bleed – Demiurge
