Closing out 2023, the guys in Il Divo took to the stage at St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theatre to deliver Christmas classics as only they can as well as hits from their catalog and even some ‘new’ stuff for the fans that packed the venue.  Current lineup of the group features tenors Urs Bühler and David Miller as well as baritones Sébastien Izambard and Steven LaBrie.  The evenings performance included references and nods to St. Pete and the venue, as this was not only the launching pad for their 2022 tour including a rescheduled date due to COVID shutdowns, but also the first show after the passing of baritone Carlos Marin and introduction of LaBrie as a member.  Each of the gentlemen took their individual turns taking lead on vocals or the focus of the spotlight, but make no mistake, this group, the setlist, and the show in general are a group effort.  I enjoyed the kickoff of the evening with Christmas music, not only setting a jovial mood, but clearing the way for songs the audience craved from the moment they took their seats.  Make no mistake… this may not be a rock show, but these guys are rockstars within their genre and with their fans.
