Hitting the stage to an almost max capacity crowd Sept 5, 2023 the live band for Dethklok from the animated show Metalocalypse lead by Brendan Small, Mike Keneally, Bryan Beller, and Gene Hoglan began what would turn out to be one of the most fun live shows I have been to in a while. The live show was similar to a Gorillaz performance but super hilarious and very metal. The screen showed an onslaught of different scenes from the show and video montages for the animated versions of the band. During one interlude between songs the band’s mascot Facebones came on the screen and talked to the crowd about concert etiquette like taking showers and using underarm deodorant before coming out to a show. Their set lasted about an hour and got the rest of the night ready to get started for their co-headliner of the tour Babymetal. I had actually never really listed or knew too much about Babymetal before this evening. I can tell you. I’m a fan after seeing them. Exceptionally good metal. Highly energetic. Their dance routines on stage were all perfectly executed. They performed hits off of all of their albums and near the end of the evening Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave came on the video screen and they broke out into their new single “Metali!” Leaving the venue for the evening they had helped create a new fan of that genre called kawaiicore.
